Save the frog!
Right now it's a season for frogs in Poland. For saving the frogs, actually. They are moving from their winter hideouts to closest water body and very often have to cross a road on their way. Plenty die on the tarmac. High school students in Nowy Zmigrod (close to Magurski National Park, see on a map) are trying to save as many frogs as they can. They put up a small fence along the road, where most of the frogs are going. For every 15 meters of the fence they dug a hole and put there a bucket. Frogs fall into the buckets and then are safely moved to the other side of the street. There are 47 buckets. Every day at 7a.m. kids are counting the frogs before they let them out. Last year the one-day record was 1000 frogs! Source in PL Technorati: Fruit pressed through willow
![]() What is the difference between juice that we can buy in a bottle or a box at the nearby store, and freshly pressed one? The first one is made from a concentrate - juice after process of dehytratizing, clarification, etc. Then, the water is added plus some aromatizers, so the final product resembles fresh juice. First make it thick, than watery again. Amazing. There is a Polish company though, that makes nothing from this illogical process. Teso produces juice only by pressing pieced fruit. Locally bought, are washed and cut into little pieces. Fruit pulp is then pressed through willow thigs. Raw juice from the press is afterwards put throuh celulose filters, poured into bottles and pasteurised. It looks different than all the other juice - it is not as clear, but the taste is so much better...
The producer declares, that he can process all types of fruit or wegetables. It is not a mass production, but according to the owner, it guarantees good quality of the final product. Post-production dry fruit pieces are used as well - the company sells them as feedstock to local farmers. Apple skins are used for cardboard production and cherry stones are welcomed by therapeutical mattresses producers. To put it shortly - everythng is used. Very green indeed. Technorati:

Hilariously relevant cartoon on "How we can save the River"
Czech cartoon - The Small Mole (Krecik) made years ago, now seems so relevant. Maybe if minister Szyszko will see, how easy it is to change the road plans, he will finally make the decision? via Wajrak's blog Technorati:

Minister's visit in Brussels
Polish Minister of Environment, Jan Szyszko went to Brussels, trying to convince the European Commision and its Commissioner for Environmnet - Stavros Dimas. He did not succeed, of course. The European Commision will not stop the works on disciplinary proceedings against Poland - unless the works on the road through Ropsuda Valley will be ceased. As some media reports, the ecologists earn 400 PLN for every day of the protest. It is an utter rubbish - same old nonsense as with every such protest. Technorati: |
